Our Citation Style

What citation style do you use?

Our citation style is based primarily on APA 7th edition (APA 7th) but is a hybrid adaptation. It is designed to enhance readability and usability in web-based content while maintaining the clarity of traditional academic referencing.

Why modify APA 7th?

APA 7th is widely used for in-text citations, but strict adherence can sometimes reduce clarity on digital platforms. This modification improves:

✔ Readability – Reducing visual clutter in citations.
✔ Navigation – Making it easier to locate full references.
✔ Web Accessibility – Enhancing user experience on screens.

How does it work?

Inline Citations use APA-style author-year format but include a superscript number linking to the reference list. For example:

(Weber, 1922)1 or Weber (1922)1

This keeps the APA familiarity while integrating a structured reference system. This system bridges traditional academic conventions with modern digital readability.

Reference List

The reference list is ordered alphabetically by the lead author/editor’s surname rather than by citation order. The return link will link to the article’s first citation occurrence. Any links are shown using a chain icon, for example:

↩ 3 Weber, M. (1922). Economy and Society. 🔗

Issue with formatting of some citations

We are aware of a slight issue with the formatting of some of our citations. This is caused by our citation software, and we are working with the software providers to fix this issue as soon as possible.
