    Habitus is a system of embodied dispositions, habits, and ways of thinking that individuals acquire through socialisation.

  • Hegemonic Masculinity

    Hegemonic masculinity refers to dominant ideals of masculinity that reinforce male power and the subordination of other gender identities.

  • Hegemonic Power

    Hegemonic power refers to the dominance of a ruling class or group through cultural and ideological means rather than coercion.

  • Hidden Curriculum

    The hidden curriculum refers to the implicit values, behaviours, and norms transmitted through education, often reinforcing social hierarchies.

  • Historical Materialism

    Marx’s theory that material economic conditions shape historical development and social structures.

  • Homology

    Homology refers to structural similarities between different fields, where positions in one field correspond to those in another (e.g., educational and economic capital reinforcing each other).

  • Horizons for Action

    Diane Reay’s concept of horizons for action describes how students' educational choices are shaped by their social background and perceived possibilities.

  • Hyperreality

    A concept from Jean Baudrillard, hyperreality refers to the blurring of reality and representation, where media and simulations become indistinguishable from reality itself.
