  • OFFA (Office for Fair Access)

    The Office for Fair Access was responsible for ensuring that universities widened participation before being replaced by the Office for Students (OfS) in 2018.

    Occupational segregation refers to the unequal distribution of different demographic groups in various types of jobs, often based on gender or race.

  • Opportunity Structure

    Opportunity structure refers to the availability of educational and career opportunities that shape individuals' life chances, often influenced by class, gender, and geography.

  • Organic Crisis

    Organic crisis refers to moments of deep instability in social institutions, where established norms and values are questioned.

  • Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy

    Bourdieu distinguishes between orthodoxy (dominant, unquestioned beliefs) and heterodoxy (alternative or oppositional perspectives) in a given social field.
